U.S. Bank Celebrates Service During National Volunteer Week

U.S. Bank is celebrating service during National Volunteer Week, a time designed to recognize people doing extraordinary service in their communities. National Volunteer Week 2013 takes place April 21 through April 27.

“U.S. Bank employees are encouraged to volunteer in their communities throughout the year,” said John Elmore, vice chairman of community banking and branch delivery for U.S. Bancorp (NYSE: USB), the parent company of U.S. Bank. “In 2012, U.S. Bank employees volunteered approximately 250,000 hours in their hometowns across the country – and our goal is to exceed that amount in 2013.”

Elmore added, “Our commitment to serving in our communities is demonstrated by our U.S. Bank Volunteer Days, where employees can take up to 16 hours of paid time off annually to volunteer, and our ‘Dollars for Doing’ program, which recognizes our employees’ volunteerism with charitable contributions from the U.S. Bank Foundation. Celebrating National Volunteer Week is a great way for us to let the people in our communities know how much we care about them and how fortunate we are to do business here.”

To mark National Volunteer Week, hundreds of U.S. Bank volunteers across the company will meet with local youth for Teach Children to Save Day, an annual event established by the American Bankers Association in 1997. In 2012, 1,700 savings lessons were taught by U.S. Bank employees to more than 57,000 students for Teach Children to Save Day. U.S. Bank employees and students will explore ways to save money such as budgeting and “living green.”

U.S. Bank has relationships with many nonprofit organizations including American Cancer Society Relay for Life, American Red Cross, Boys & Girls Clubs, Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement, Salvation Army, Second Harvest, Special Olympics and United Way.

Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week focuses national attention on the impact and power of volunteerism and service as an integral aspect of our civic leadership. The week draws the support and endorsement of President Barack Obama and Congress, governors, mayors and municipal leaders, as well as corporate and community groups across the country.
