CHERRY HILL, N.J. and PORTLAND, Maine, April 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®, recently surpassed the milestone of $100 million in donations to non-profit organizations since the foundation's inception in 2002.

Originally funded by TD Bank's predecessors, Banknorth and Commerce Bancorp, the TD Charitable Foundation has awarded more than 10,800 grants to organizations for various programs, projects and initiatives throughout the bank's footprint from Maine to Florida.
"Reaching $100 million in grants is an important milestone for the TD Charitable Foundation and TD Bank," said Elizabeth K. Warn, President of the TD Charitable Foundation. "As TD Bank has grown its footprint, we have been able to have a positive impact on programs and initiatives that are important to our customers. With a continued focus on affordable housing, financial literacy and education, and the environment, we look forward to building successful partnerships that benefit the many communities TD Bank serves."
Since 2006, one of the TD Charitable Foundation's signature programs, the annual Housing for Everyone affordable housing grant competition, has made a significant impact on the growing need for safe, affordable housing in low-to-moderate income areas. Each year, the competition opens in early July and has a theme for that year's eligible projects. Themes have included Transitional Housing/Homeless Shelters, Building for the Future/Energy Efficiency, and Housing Stabilization. To date, the Housing for Everyone competition has awarded nearly 300 grants totaling more than $12 million that have impacted thousands of housing units.
"Families with children continue to be one of the fastest growing segments of the homeless population, with an increasing number living on the streets, in cars or other unsafe accommodations," said Frances M. Esposito, Chief Executive Officer for Broward Partnership for the Homeless, Inc., a 2012 Housing for Everyone winner. "The TD Charitable Foundation's support through the 2012 Housing for Everyone competition has been instrumental in the expansion of our shelter's capacity and the launch of our Families First! initiative, which will enable us to get more families off the streets and assist them in transitioning to safe, stable housing as quickly as possible."
Recognizing the need for non-profit staff to receive ongoing, quality training to support their communities, the TD Charitable Foundation established the Non-Profit Training Resource Fund in September 2007 for employees to attend approved classes and courses that will enhance job performance. To date, 744 grants totaling $663,161 have been awarded through the Non-Profit Training Resource Fund.
The TD Charitable Foundation has also had a long-standing partnership with United Way, augmenting TD Bank's annual Employee Giving Campaign with a donation to benefit local United Ways. In 2012, the TD Charitable Foundation donation totaled $1.5 million, and 468 grants totaling $6,242,373 have been awarded to United Ways from Maine to Florida since 2007.
To help organizations maneuver through the grant application process with ease, the TD Charitable Foundation provides step-by-step instructions, eligibility requirements, and the grant applications on TD Bank's website, TDBank.com.
According to Warn, "The online application has been crucial to providing organizations with easy-to-find, instant access to the funding request process. At the same time, it helps cut down on paper use, which we are extremely proud of as TD works to become an environmentally-friendly, paper-neutral company."
