Canadian Tire Applauds Ontario's Emphasis on Road Safety in Budget 2013

Support for Insurance Incentives will Encourage Safer Driving Habits

TORONTO, April 30, 2013 /CNW/ - Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited (TSX: CTC, TSX: CTC.a) congratulates the Ontario government on today's announcement that encourages auto insurance companies to incent drivers to take preventative measures to reduce their risk on the road.

"Incenting drivers to improve their driving skills and the safety of their vehicle by offering lower insurance rates is to everyone's benefit," said Allan MacDonald, Senior Vice President, Automotive and Marketing, Canadian Tire Corporation. "Canadian Tire has been a proud partner in road safety for more than 90 years and we know what it takes for vehicles and their drivers to be road-ready through all four seasons of the year."

"Proper preparation for winter driving, including four matching winter tires, automotive maintenance and proper driver training has been proven to improve the safety of the vehicle and its passengers," he continued.

Canadian Tire has a long history of implementing public awareness campaigns and events that enforce road safety messages as well as supporting research into the benefits of winter tires and preventative vehicle maintenance. The Company, with 200 stores in communities across Ontario, has been proud to support safety partners and governments to help ensure drivers are equipped with the information and products they need to stay safe on the road.

In June 2012, Canadian Tire launched the Canadian Tire Drivers Academy; a state-of-the-art driving school that is the only program that teaches auto maintenance and hands-on training to new drivers, from general maintenance to keeping their vehicle safe on the roads. The Company also offers Canadian Tire Roadside Assistance in select markets.

Continued investment in preventative automotive maintenance has been proven to catch serious problems early, reducing repair costs, the risk of collisions and the number and size of insurance claims.
