Comtech Telecommunications Corp. Receives $1.0 Million of SATCOM Product Orders to Power Multi-Region Network for Foreign Ministry

May 8, 2013Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ: CMTL) announced today that its Tempe, Arizona-based subsidiary, Comtech EF Data Corp., received $1.0 million in equipment orders. The infrastructure equipment will support the transport of voice, video and data traffic over a 150 Mbps satellite-based network for a foreign ministry.

The foreign ministry’s mission-critical user traffic required a new hub-spoke platform with an enhanced DVB-S2 outbound and SCPC return channels to handle individual site traffic of up to 8 Mbps while minimizing the size of the antenna and BUC. Comtech EF Data’s Advanced VSAT Solutions will be supplied for hub and remote locations of this multi-region, shared satellite network. The award-winning Advanced VSAT is an innovative hub-spoke platform incorporating technologies that enable the most efficient, cost-effective, highest quality, reliable, secure and scalable connectivity. The combination of advanced forward error correction (“FEC”), ACM/VCM, header and lossless payload compression, RAN and WAN optimization, advanced QoS and dynamic bandwidth management reduce OPEX and CAPEX by minimizing leased bandwidth, reducing antenna and BUC size, and minimizing power consumption. The result for users is an overall reduction in the total cost of ownership and flexibility for shared bandwidth networks that cannot be achieved with conventional hub-spoke platforms.

“This foreign ministry is an established customer with hundreds of Comtech satellite modems already deployed globally,” commented Fred Kornberg, President and Chief Executive Officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. “Our equipment was selected to support their mission-critical network based on our proven product reliability and our market-leading bandwidth efficiencies.”

Comtech EF Data Corporation is the recognized global leader in satellite bandwidth efficiency and link optimization. The advanced communication solutions encompass the Advanced VSAT Solutions, Modems, RAN & WAN Optimization, Managed Bandwidth and RF products. The Company is recognized as a technology innovator, and has a reputation for exceptional product quality and reliability.
