Sears Canada Introduces New Hometown Store Model in Orillia

ORILLIA, ON, May 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Today Sears Canada Inc. (TSX: SCC) has unveiled its latest Hometown concept store in Orillia, with a new 25,000 square-foot location, the largest independently owned and operated Sears location in Canada. Sears Hometown stores, the Company's Dealer network of independent owners in smaller markets, offer a unique assortment of major appliances, mattresses, furniture, fitness and high-quality seasonal goods such as barbecues, patio furniture and outdoor power equipment such as tractors, lawnmowers and snowblowers.

This new Hometown store offers an enjoyable shopping experience that incorporates updated visual presentation standards, less clutter and a wider selection of merchandise offerings at everyday low prices. To broaden its reach with customers, the store carries a large selection of Sears Whole Home furniture and mattresses to complement the assortment of Home and Hardline products.

There is a renewed focus to promote the catalogue and online merchandise pick-up desk with improved signage and marketing to attract additional customers and drive revenue. The merchandise pick-up desk gives customers easy access to Sears Canada's multi-channel shopping and gives them the opportunity to order an array of Sears products not typically found in Hometown stores.

With Calvin McDonald, President and CEO of Sears Canada and local government dignitaries, Orillia store owners Martin, Angela, Grant and April Russell will cut a ribbon to celebrate the store's grand opening. At the event Sears Canada will donate $1,000 to Eat Well to Excel, the store's local community partner, an organization that provides a nutrition program for school-age children in Simcoe County.

"The opening of the Sears Hometown store in Orillia is another important milestone in our three-year transformation," said Mr. McDonald. "The changes we are making to our Hometown stores coupled with our renewed commitment to customer service, 90-day Price Protection on big ticket items and 365-day mattress guarantee, Orillia and surrounding area customers will have a Sears experience like no other in the country."

"Opening the Orillia store is just one of the initiatives we are undertaking in our Hometown store network," added Mr. McDonald.  "We will continue to invest in this channel by opening additional stores and refreshing existing stores later this year." "Today, the Orillia Hometown store will host an exciting event for Sears customers," said Martin Russell. "Following our ribbon-cutting event today, we invite customers to join us tomorrow, Saturday, May 18, for a special customer event.  There are grand opening specials, refreshments in the store and gift card giveaways."
