Moody's Employees Build Bikes for U.S. Military Families

The Moody's Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Moody’s Corporation (MCO), today hosted a “Bike Build” event that donated over 50 children’s bicycles built by Moody’s employees to the families of U.S. service members. The event was held in partnership with the USO of Metropolitan New York, a nonprofit organization focused on lifting the spirits of America’s troops and their families.

Over 60 Moody’s employees volunteered their time throughout the day to help assemble and test bikes as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to community service. Last year, Moody’s employees worldwide donated over 8,800 volunteer service hours through Moody’s Foundation sponsored projects in their communities.

"I am thrilled that so many of our employees have stepped forward to show their support in such a tangible way for military families,” said Linda S. Huber, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Moody's Corporation and a former captain in the U.S. Army. “This underscores the spirit of service and generosity that Moody’s employees around the world have demonstrated through their regular participation in community service events.”

The Bike Build initiative began in response to service members explaining that the best way to help them is to help their families. Nearly 20 military families from across the New York City area attended the event, which included Army National Guard soldiers and their families.

"With the approach of Memorial Day it is especially important that we remember the service and sacrifice our military families make each and every day of the year,” said Brian Whiting, President and CEO of the USO of Metropolitan New York. “We are grateful that so many Moody’s employees were eager to donate their time to bring extra joy and happiness by building bikes for military families.”

The USO Bike Build aligns with other recent Moody’s Foundation activities to benefit the military community. The Foundation also hosts service members in Moody’s Interview University, a workshop that pairs Moody’s employees with veterans to help improve their interviewing skills as they transition to the private sector. In addition, Moody’s recently formed an employee networking group composed of military veterans and their supporters.

About the USO

The USO (United Service Organizations) lifts the spirits of America's troops and their families millions of times each year at hundreds of places worldwide.
