Definitive Book on the Boston Marathon Bombings by Boston Globe Reporters to Be Published by Dutton
Brian Tart, President and Publisher of Dutton, announced today the
acquisition of a book that will provide the definitive account of the
gripping story of the Boston Marathon bombings, the subsequent manhunt,
and the city's successful attempts to overcome the devastating impact of
the insidious attack.
Award-winning reporters Scott Helman and Jenna Russell of The Boston
Globe will be aided by a team of investigative reporters at the
paper that produced top-notch, on-the-scene coverage during and after
the recent tragedy. The book, still untitled, will be published in time
for the first anniversary. Dutton Editor-in-Chief Ben Sevier and
Executive Editor Jill Schwartzman acquired World Rights from agents Lane
Zachary and Todd Shuster of Zachary Shuster Harmsworth.
Following an ensemble of key characters, Helman and Russell will weave a
narrative that chronicles the entire story of the day and all those who
were affected – the runners, the victims, the fearless doctors and first
responders, the perpetrators, and the heroic efforts of the ordinary
citizens of the great city of Boston. With the resources of The Boston
Globe, the book will provide an unprecedented level of detail and
insight, including what went on behind-the-scenes as the police and FBI
faced several profoundly challenging situations and dilemmas, such as
whether or not to release photos of the Tsarnaev brothers.
Evoking the trauma at the bombsite as well as the fear and chaos of the
days that followed, the book will also highlight the bravery,
resourcefulness, and resiliency of the Boston community. It will be a
portrait of a city on its worst day; but also at its best.
About the authors:
Scott Helman is a reporter at The
Boston Globe, where he has been on staff since 2000. Currently a
staff writer for The Boston Globe Magazine, he previously oversaw
local and regional political coverage, was a lead reporter on the 2008
presidential campaign, and worked as a reporter, editor, and multimedia
producer for the Globe’s Metro section. He is also co-author of The
Real Romney, a Globe biography of Mitt Romney published in
2012.
A Globe reporter since 2000, Jenna Russell has covered higher
education and spent several years as the paper’s roving regional
reporter. She worked on "68 Blocks: Life, Death, Hope", a 2012 series
about a Boston neighborhood, and on a 2010 series about childhood
bullying that won a Dart Award from Columbia University. In 2009 she
was part of a team of Globe reporters who wrote the
biography Last Lion: The Fall and Rise of Ted Kennedy.
