President's Choice® Children's Charity gives more than $13 million in 2012

BRAMPTON, ON, May 30, 2013 /CNW/ - President's Choice® Children's Charity, one of the largest corporate charities in Canada, granted more than $13 million in 2012 to organizations that helped children live to their full potential. Grants went toward supporting Canadian families whose children have physical or developmental disabilities, as well as nutrition programs aimed at fighting childhood hunger.

The cost of administration and operations of the Charity is funded by Loblaw Companies Limited, ensuring that 100 per cent of every dollar donated goes to helping kids and their families.

Of the $13 million raised, the Charity awarded grants totalling more than $9 million to 1,900 children with disabilities and their families. Grants typically supported the purchase of assistive devices, vehicle adaptations, developmental and physical therapy, camp tuition, home improvements, and respite care. With the balance, representing $4.02 million, the Charity supported close to three thousand nutrition programs, which helped more than 282,000 children across the country through its grants to Breakfast for Learning and Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada.

"We are very proud of the way Loblaw banner stores and their colleagues, customers and vendors have come together to raise funds for organizations and programs that are changing children's' lives and contributing to the health and wellness of our communities," said Peggy Hornell, executive director, President's Choice® Children's Charity.
