ASOCS Presentation at Linley Tech Carrier Conference 2013 to Highlight Need for Open Software Framework in the C-RAN

ASOCS Presentation at Linley Tech Carrier Conference 2013 to Highlight Need for Open Software Framework in the C-RAN

SANTA CLARA, California, June 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

LinleyTechCarrier Conference - ASOCS Ltd, a silicon IP provider of software-defined radio solutions, announced that ASOCS CEO and co-founder, Gilad Garon, will speak about open software for the Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) at the annual Linley Tech Carrier Conference. The conference brings together ASOCS with other leading chip vendors to showcase new product innovations and designs for carrier infrastructure applications.

Mr. Garon's speech, entitled "Software Defined Access Framework and Modem Processing," will highlight a new open software framework called Modem Processing Language (MPL) based in the C programming language that will enable the de-coupling, programming and virtualization of baseband resources in the C-RAN. This concept is becoming increasingly important with the emergence of the C-RAN, via which a cellular network uses a centralized or regional server farm to process all or some of its data-plane traffic. With MPL, cellular network administrators can manage their access services and cell site baseband resources more easily through the abstraction of data-plane processing tasks into virtual routines. Service providers will no longer have to configure and deploy hardware manually. Additionally, MPL will enable vendor interoperability and other advanced network architectures such as massively dense networks.

In February, ASOCS entered into a strategic agreement with the Research Institute of China Mobile Communications Company Ltd (NYSE:CHL; HKEx: 0941) for the development, commercialization and testing of large-scale baseband processing units for China Mobile's C-RAN network. China Mobile currently has over 700 million users. The solution is expected to enhance the performance of general-purpose computers, such as Intel x86-based servers in the C-RAN, with highly specialized Modem Processing Units (MPUs) that can perform massive and concurrent baseband calculations in a cost- and power-efficient manner.

Mr. Garon will address the Linley Tech Carrier Conference audience on June 12, 2013, at 1:15 p.m. in the Wireless Architectures session.
