ATCO Sustainable Communities to Build Community Facility for Swan River First Nation

Second contract for company in the Treaty 8 territory

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 13, 2013) - ATCO Sustainable Communities announced today that it has signed a contract with Swan River First Nation near Slave Lake, Alberta to build a 6,600 sq. ft. multi-purpose gymnasium and community centre. The facility will be connected to the existing school for use in physical education programs as well as community events for up to 200 people.

ATCO Sustainable Communities will be working with Wapsewsipi Enterprises Ltd., Swan River First Nation's own construction company, to prepare the area for construction. The project will combine ATCO's pre-engineered and modular technologies with completion scheduled for the beginning of December 2013; just in time for a Christmas celebration to be held in the facility.

"This project is an excellent example of how ATCO can partner with a community to utilize local trades and qualified members for employment opportunities," said Boris Rassin, President, ATCO Sustainable Communities. "By encouraging direct involvement of Nation members and companies we find that a stronger community connection to the project is developed and that leads to greater project success."

"We look forward to working together with ATCO Sustainable Communities," said Swan River Chief Leon Chalifoux. "The addition of this facility will not only benefit our children, but will provide a space where we can bring our people together and foster the relationships within our community as a whole."

This is the second project awarded to ATCO Sustainable Communities in the Treaty 8 territory. Late last year, Peerless Trout First Nation awarded ATCO Sustainable Communities a design-build contract for its new fire hall which is currently being designed.

ATCO Sustainable Communities combines ATCO's modern construction technologies with its long history of forming successful Aboriginal partnerships to build facilities that reflect a community's cultural values. By offering a turnkey solution with shorter timelines and dedicated quality control throughout the manufacturing process, the company can economically design and build any facility a community may need, ranging from offices, schools and daycare centres to residential housing, hockey arenas and retail outlets.

ATCO Sustainable Communities is part of the ATCO Group of Companies. ATCO Group, with more than 9,400 employees and assets of approximately $14 billion, delivers service excellence and innovative business solutions worldwide with leading companies engaged in Structures & Logistics (manufacturing, logistics and noise abatement), Utilities (pipelines, natural gas and electricity transmission and distribution), Energy (power generation, natural gas gathering, processing, storage and liquids extraction) and Technologies (business systems solutions).
