American Electric Power Co., Inc. Research Report

On June 4, 2013, Southern California Edison (SCE) announced that as the income requirements for several energy saving programs have increased, it is encouraging its customers to check out the programs so that they can save money on their utility bills. Starting June 1, 2013, the maximum income requirements allowed under the California Alternate Rate for Energy (CARE) and the Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) programs have increased. SCE stated that the CARE program can save customers about 30% on their utility bills, while FERA provides a lower monthly discount for income-qualified households of three or more based on their energy usage. PPL Corporation Research Report
On June 5, 2013, PPL Electric Utilities, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation, announced that it recently completed rebuilding a 16-mile power line in York and Cumberland counties. The Company stated that the $44 million project will help reduce the risk of power outages by doubling the capacity of the previous line. The project, which took about a year to complete, replaced a 230-kilovolt, single-circuit line supported by lattice-style towers with a double-circuit line of the same voltage supported by taller single-shaft steel poles. "This work was done as part of the PJM Interconnection's Regional Transmission Expansion Plan. It benefits both PPL Electric Utilities customers in Cumberland and York counties, and the high-voltage electric system in the mid-Atlantic region," said Paul Santarelli, Manager of Transmission Operations for the utility.
