In a recent report, ratings agency Standard & Poor's (S&P) noted that major U.S. regional banks reported "favorable" financial results in the first quarter of 2013. According to S&P, regional banks' asset quality showed further progress and their capital ratios also improved. The rating agency also noted that the funding profile of large U.S. regional banks remained favorable. However, S&P expects low interest rates to continue to hurt regional banks' net interest margins (NIMs). On Wednesday, June 19, 2013, shares in regional banks ended mostly lower, tracking losses in the broader market which plunged after the release of Federal Reserve's monetary policy statement. The major movers in the sector included Regions Financial Corporation (NYSE: RF), Synovus Financial Corp. (NYSE: SNV), BB&T Corporation (NYSE: BBT), First Horizon National Corporation (NYSE: FHN), and Fulton Financial Corp. (NASDAQ: FULT). AAAResearchReports.com tracked RF, SNV, BBT, FHN, and FULT.
