BOSTON, June 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay has just announced the launch of its new Technology Club aimed at providing kids from the Massachusetts Bay area with a proficiency in math and science with mentors from Boston based tech companies. Participating local organizations include Carbonite, Constant Contact, ConnectEDU, Intuit, Inc. and PayPal.
Employees who participate in the program will be matched with kids between the ages of 7-12 in the local community at flexible times approximately twice a month. Additionally, the program will provide participants with optional events geared towards fostering interests in technology, including monthly competitions and access to free promotions from the Museum of Science.
"The Technology Club gives kids an opportunity to bond with someone who thinks the same way they do," said Wendy Foster, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay. "It also gives our local partners an opportunity to give back in a way that's meaningful to them."
Carbonite, a leading provider of online backup for small businesses and consumers, is one of the partners excited to be involved in the launch.
"When I was a kid I joined a science club that was supported by local colleges and businesses," said David Friend, chairman and CEO, Carbonite. "It opened my eyes to science and engineering and that eventually led to my present career as a tech entrepreneur. I'm really pleased that my company is able to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay on their new Technology Club. It's a great opportunity for the kids, and it's a great opportunity for us to give back to the people of Boston."
Unbelievably, there are still more than 1,000 boys in the Massachusetts Bay area waiting for a Big Brother.
