Great American Energy, Inc. Announces Completion of Gravity Survey on Nevada-Based Big Smoky Valley Lithium Project
Great American Energy, Inc. (OTCBB: SRBL) ("Great American Energy"
and/or "the Company") announces the completion of a Gravity Survey
(i.e., gravimetric survey) on the Company's 7,680-acre Big Smoky Valley
(BSV) Lithium Project. The Gravity Survey is the initial component of
Great American Energy's 2013 exploration program on the BSV property in
and around Esmeralda County, Nevada.
Photos of the Gravity Survey are available on the Company's website: http://www.gamericanenergy.com/.
The results of the Gravity Survey will be released once they are
available.
The Gravity Survey was completed between June 15 and 29, 2013, over the
Company's 48 BSV Placer Claims located in the central region of Big
Smoky Valley, Nevada. The survey included a total of 100 gravity
stations with a 1000 x 1000 meter grid (i.e., a 1-kilometer grid). The
grid scheme extended east into bedrock at Lone Mountain. Acquiring
gravity stations in bedrock is vital during any survey, as it allows a
unique solution to be drawn from an otherwise relative and large set of
potential interpretations.
James Hasbrouck of Hasbrouck Geophysics will handle the analysis of the
Gravity Survey's data. The gravity data will be processed using the
GravMaster computer program from Geotools Corporation. The data for each
observation (date, time, latitude, longitude, elevation, and value) will
be entered into the processing program with the gravity value directly
in mGals. The interpretation of the modeled gravity data will form the
basis for structural interpretation, and will define the basin shape.
The defined areas of increased bedrock depth or lower bedrock elevation
may be conducive for concentration of lithium-bearing brines.
Results from the Gravity Survey, once available, will be used to select
stations for a controlled-source audio-magnetotellurics/magnetotellurics
(CSAMT/MT) survey on the Company's Big Smoky Valley Project property.
Successful CSAMT/MT surveys have been conducted in Nevada's Clayton
Valley area, and experience gained from those surveys will be applied to
the BSV claims project area.
Both the Gravity Survey and the CSAMT/MT survey are part of the
Company's 2013 BSV exploration program, which is designed to map depth
to bedrock or thickness of sediments, map geologic structure and
stratigraphy relative to the occurrence of lithium-bearing brine,
identify conductors that are thought to be representative of
lithium-bearing brine, and provide information for the selection and
design of additional geophysical surveys for the identification of
drilling locations.
The BSV region's surrounding lithium-bearing rhyolites are among the
richest in the world according to US Geological Survey (USGS)
information, and USGS reconnaissance drill holes on or near the BSV
property yielded lithium values averaging 160ppm, according to a 1974
USGS report. The BSV Project is also adjacent to America’s only
producing lithium mine, Chemetall Foote's Silver Peak Mine in Clayton
Valley (producing for 40+ years at a rate of ~5,000 lithium carbonate
equivalent tons per year).
Great American Energy's CEO, Felipe Pimienta, commented: "The completion
of the Big Smoky Valley Project's Gravity Survey is just the first step
of our 2013 BSV exploration program. We're grateful to GeoXplor for
their professional handling of the survey, and we're now looking forward
to receiving the analysis of the survey's data from James Hasbrouck of
Hasbrouck Geophysics. Both the Gravity Survey data and the upcoming
CSAMT/MT survey will help us better establish our BSV property's full
lithium potential and any connections or similarities it might share
with Rockwood's proven lithium production nearby."
