MONTREAL, July 9, 2013 /CNW/ - RBC today announced a $50,000 donation to the Canadian Red Cross to support relief efforts for those affected by the explosion and fires that destroyed the city centre of Lac-Mégantic.

"RBC is committed to helping the community of Lac Mégantic recover and rebuild from this devastating incident," said Martin Thibodeau, regional president, Québec, RBC Royal Bank. "In the aftermath of this tragedy and the remarkable scenes of people helping each other, we're honoured to contribute in helping our neighbours through this challenging time. We are partnering closely with the Quebec division of the Red Cross in supporting their readiness initiative that allows them to be present in the very first moments of such tragedies."
