The New York Times Company Names Meredith Kopit Levien Executive Vice President of Advertising

The New York Times Company announced today that Meredith Kopit Levien, currently the chief revenue officer at Forbes Media, has been named executive vice president, advertising. Ms. Kopit Levien will be responsible for the generation of all advertising revenue from The Times’s various multiplatform products and services and for leadership of its global advertising sales team. As a member of the executive committee, she will report directly to President and CEO Mark Thompson, effective August 5, 2013.

“We are delighted to welcome Meredith to The New York Times,” said Mr. Thompson. “She joins us with a proven track record as a highly skilled business executive known for success, creativity and innovation in all the arenas important to The Times, namely print, digital and live events. She is also a motivational leader who will be charged with overseeing an already excellent sales team at a disruptive time for the industry. As one of the first newspapers to integrate its print and digital sales operation, The Times has an impressive history of advertising innovation; we’ll look to Meredith to help advance us to the next frontier.”

Ms. Kopit Levien, 42, will join The Times from Forbes, where, since 2011, she has served as chief revenue officer. In this role, she leads the North American and European revenue operations for Forbes.com, Forbes Magazine Group and Forbes Conferences. Among her accomplishments were leading the team to deliver the company’s best business results in five years in 2012.

She joined Forbes in 2010 as vice president and publisher of ForbesLife and ForbesWoman.com before being named senior vice president and group publisher of the Forbes Magazine Group.

Prior to Forbes, Ms. Kopit Levien held various successively senior and strategic ad sales positions at The Atlantic Media Company from 2001-2008. She served as an account manager and director and head of new business for I33 Communications, a digital ad agency and Web site development firm, from 1999-2001.

She began her professional career at the Advisory Board Company in Washington, DC in 1993.

Ms. Kopit Levien received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia in 1993.
