Stephen Goldsmith Joins Huron Consulting Group to Broaden Public Sector Services and Expand Operational Efficiency Offerings to University Clients

Huron Consulting Group (NASDAQ: HURN), a leading provider of business consulting services, today announced that Stephen Goldsmith, an expert in public sector innovation and public-private partnerships, has joined the Company as a managing director to establish new offerings focused on operational excellence in the public and higher education sectors.

“Steve has a national reputation as an innovator in helping large, complex entities improve their fiscal and operational performance. Given the financial challenges facing many states and municipalities, we are confident that Steve can help us expand our strategic focus into these arenas. Many private and public universities also share the same need for finding ways to improve the quality of service at a lower cost,” said James H. Roth, chief executive officer and president, Huron Consulting Group.

Goldsmith is the Daniel Paul Professor of Government and the Director of the Innovations in American Government Program at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He served as deputy mayor for operations of New York City from 2010 to 2011, and previously served two terms as the mayor of Indianapolis, where he earned a reputation as one of the country's leaders in public-private partnerships, competition and privatization. Goldsmith was also the chief domestic policy advisor to the George W. Bush campaign in 2000.

“The public and university sectors are experiencing a significant amount of change,” said Goldsmith. “Joining forces with Huron, which is known as the premier provider of health and education consulting services, provides an opportunity to leverage the Company’s existing operational efficiency expertise and resources to broaden services in the public sector and expand opportunities for operational excellence with university and healthcare clients.”

Goldsmith is a frequent speaker and author on operational excellence. His publications include: Governing by Network: The New Shape of the Public Sector; The Twenty-First Century City: Resurrecting Urban America; and The Power of Social Innovation. He is also a regular contributor to Governing’s blog entitled, “Better, Faster, Cheaper” available at http://www.governing.com/blogs/bfc and e21: Economic Policies for the 21st Century’s blog available at http://www.economics21.org/.
