Yellow Pages Group Cautions Businesses Across Canada About Recent Incidences of Fraudulent Solicitations

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Aug. 6, 2013) - Yellow Pages Group is advising businesses across Canada to be particularly vigilant as a number of fraudulent solicitations for directory advertising bearing an altered version of the Yellow Pages logo have been reported throughout Canada.

These solicitations are sent via email with an originating address from a company called Yellow-Pages-(PROVINCE).Net operating under a New York state address. This company has no affiliation with Yellow Pages Group, nor owns or operates any Canadian directory advertising.

"We work closely with the Competition Bureau of Canada and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre to halt companies who attempt to scam small businesses into purchasing fake advertising under false pretenses," said François Ramsay, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Affairs and General Counsel of Yellow Pages Group. "We strongly advise all businesses to thoroughly read all communications they might receive purporting to be from Yellow Pages Group."

Information and examples for small businesses on identifying fraudulent solicitations can be found on the Yellow Pages 360° Solution website.

Businesses who receive questionable solicitations or invoices are encouraged to report these incidents to the Competition Bureau of Canada at 1-800-348-5358 and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. Those who suspect they may have been victims of this directory advertising scam should consult the aforementioned organizations or their local Better Business Bureau chapter to better understand their legal rights.

In order to validate the legitimacy of a purported Yellow Pages communication, businesses can contact Yellow Pages Group Customer Service at 1-877-909-9356.
