116 New Sites Activated in July, More Than 700 Completed So Far in 2013

TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless, which operates the nation's largest 4G LTE wireless network, activated 116 new 4G LTE cell sites during July in Florida to reinforce the company's most advanced wireless technology for customers across the state.

Verizon has activated more than 700 new 4G LTE sites and has invested more than $125 million so far in 2013 to substantially complete and reinforce the company's 4G LTE wireless network in cities and towns throughout Florida.

In July, 16 new Verizon 4G LTE sites were turned on in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties.  Other active areas included 15 new sites in Lake and Polk counties, 13 new sites in Hillsborough and Pinellas, 11 in Miami-Dade and Broward, and seven in Volusia County.

Verizon launched 4G LTE technology in Florida's major markets in December of 2010, with an ambitious objective of matching Verizon's award-winning 3G network footprint statewide by the end of 2013.  Teams of Florida Verizon engineers worked swiftly to achieve that goal six months early.

"We're continuing to swiftly install new sites and facilities to strengthen 4G LTE coverage and services," said Frank Wise, network executive director for the Verizon Wireless Florida region.  "This advanced technology has been an immense hit with mobile, tech-savvy Florida consumers, and we're always working hard to stay far ahead of customer demand – and our competitors."

Steady investment to enhance network technology and reliability in Florida is an ongoing focus for Verizon Wireless.  Since the company formed in 2000, more than $2.2 billion has been invested to build and enhance Verizon Wireless network coverage and services for customers in the state.
