Thousands of data, call and text tests reveal Verizon Wireless is overall leader in Philadelphia, Allentown and Lancaster

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- After numerous tests and performances, Verizon Wireless has been named the top performing wireless carrier in Philadelphia, Allentown and Lancaster this spring and summer by RootMetrics®, an independent company that provides accurate and unbiased mobile performance data with market-specific RootScore Reports and geographical coverage maps.

RootMetrics® conducted thousands of data, call and text tests throughout the Philadelphia, Allentown and Lancaster areas, then sorted the data to detail which carrier provided the fastest download speeds, most reliable email and web service, strongest text service, and fewest dropped calls in each area.

In Philadelphia, Verizon Wireless ranked first in data performance and call performance after 91,000 tests. Users with the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network were also able to download mail and browse the web faster than users on other networks when working online through their smartphone.

Verizon Wireless took top overall performance in Allentown in July with a score of 93 out of 100 after 17,000 tests. Verizon Wireless also took the top performance in network speeds where users were able to download email and browse the web faster through their smartphone.

In May, Verizon Wireless's 4G LTE network received a score of 94 out of 100 in Lancaster after 17,000 tests, with the strongest results in data performance, call performance and overall combined performance. Verizon Wireless customers also saw the fewest dropped/blocked calls in the area.

"Every day, we strive to make our 4G LTE network more reliable than ever for our customers. The latest RootMetrics results are reflective of our dedication to our network and to our customers," said Clint Pagano, Director of System Performance for Verizon Wireless's Philadelphia Tri-State Region. "We are proud that our 4G LTE network covers 94% of the Philadelphia Tri-State Region and is ever-growing – set to soon surpass 500 markets across the U.S. – and we are proud of the reliability customers find in our network."

Since 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested more than $2 billion in the Philadelphia Tri-State Region to increase coverage and capacity on behalf of customers.
