"We recognize the risks climate change represents to our environment and we are committed to do what we can to support environmental sustainability and green initiatives," said Jay B. Johnson, vice president, corporate real estate at The Hanover. "We continue to invest in green technologies, recycling, and waste management programs as we further strengthen our long-standing sustainability program."

EPA's Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program that helps to increase the use of green power among leading U.S. organizations.  The program works with more than 1,000 leading organizations, including Fortune 500® companies, local, state, and federal government agencies, manufacturers and retailers, trade associations, and a growing number of colleges and universities. Partners are purchasing billions of kilowatt-hours (KWh) of green power annually, which has the equivalent impact of removing the emissions of hundreds of thousands of passenger cars from the road each year.

The EPA classifies green power as electricity generated from environmentally preferable renewable resources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, low-impact biomass, and low-impact hydro resources.
