Quest Integrity Group, a global leader in the development and delivery
of advanced inspection and engineering assessment services and software
products, recently developed a high definition animation featuring
MANTIS™, its external
steam reformer tube inspection solution. MANTIS conducts reformer
tube inspections using proprietary tube creep sensors and an advanced
cross-canceling eddy current technology. Combined with data analysis, remaining
life assessment, proprietary materials database, temperature
correction software and advanced engineering capabilities for customized
solutions as required, Quest Integrity’s unique Reformer Care Solution
enables operators to optimally manage these critical assets.
MANTIS detects, identifies and quantifies a variety of failure
mechanisms such as cracks and fissures caused by creep strain, as well
as bulging, swelling and manufacturing flaws. Since MANTIS travels the
full tube length at a speed of 2 feet per second (0.61/meter), each tube
is inspected on average in less than one minute, minimizing reformer
down time. Quest Integrity’s engineers analyze the collected inspection
data to assess fitness-for-service (FFS) from Level 1 to Level 3 in
accordance with API-579 and ASME FFS standards, allowing plant engineers
to safely manage and often extend tube life.
“The MANTIS animation features one part of our integrated Reformer Care
Solution, which enables our clients to minimize the risk of unplanned
downtime and maximize tube life. The inspection data, advanced
engineering and remaining life assessment capabilities that Quest
Integrity offers for steam reformers provide our clients with a solution
for optimal asset integrity management,” said Barry Fisher, Director of
Syngas Resources, Quest Integrity Group.
