PECO has invested more than $500,000 to complete its annual inspection
of 1,885 circuits and more than 10,000 miles of aerial electric lines
across the region. This work is part of the company’s ongoing
maintenance and electric service efforts to help keep the lights on for
customers.
The program includes visual inspection of PECO’s aerial electric system
to look for potential issues like damaged equipment and sagging lines.
Infrared cameras also are used to identify potential future issues
before they occur by recording temperature variations within a piece of
equipment while it is in operation.
“Preventative maintenance programs help us identify and address
potential issues before they impact our customers,” said John McDonald,
vice president of Technical Services. “Each year we invest millions of
dollars to continuously monitor, inspect, repair and replace equipment,
which is crucial to ensuring safe and reliable electric service for our
customers.”
These inspections are part of PECO’s overall preventative maintenance
program, which includes regular inspection of equipment on the company’s
natural gas and electric systems, including manholes, underground
cables, transformers, substations and other electrical equipment.
