During his part of the discussion, Dantam will cover the development of an electric hybrid 18-wheel truck powered by Axion PbC batteries. The truck, powered by a 56-battery array, was developed by ePower Engines. Dantam will also discuss Axion's continuing work with Norfolk Southern on its first all-electric locomotive powered by Axion's PbC batteries, and the advantages of PbC batteries in stop-start applications.
The roundtable discussion will analyze the growth of the smart transportation market, emerging technological advances and how urban mobility manifests itself into a more efficient system. Other topics included in the panel discussion include:
- What are the policy and economic issues that are prompting the progression of smart cities?
- What are the main challenges to the growth of the EV market?
- What concerns are raised with the electrification of the transportation?
- What smart solutions are being introduced to New York City and other urban cities?
The panel discussion will take place beginning 9:30AM on September 10 at the Markle Foundation, 10 Rockefeller Plaza, on the 16th floor. Further information on speakers, subjects, registration information and an option to stream the event online can be found at http://bit.ly/1amfCFT
Axion Power's advanced PbC batteries combine high performance characteristics with the proven manufacturability, and 99.1% recyclability, of traditional lead-acid batteries. The PbC patented activated carbon negative electrode is a disruptive technology in the battery world. While much of the public discussion regarding batteries focuses on transportation, that is just one of the markets Axion Power's batteries address. The PbC battery is also uniquely suited for renewable storage applications, such as wind and solar, and to the needs of electric utilities − providing opportunities for frequency regulation, power quality, power smoothing and potential peak power shaving. In December of 2011, the Company commissioned a .5MW PowerCube into the PJM network. This asset provides revenue-generating demand response and frequency regulation and contributes directly into the PJM's network on a daily basis.
