Comtech EF Data Introduces New CDM-625A Advanced Satellite Modem

CMTL

Comtech EF Data Corporation announced today the introduction of a new satellite modem, the CDM-625A Advanced Satellite Modem. This latest entrant to the award-winning family of satellite modems builds on Comtech EF Data’s legacy of high-performance and unrivaled spectral efficiency.

The new CDM-625A platform provides the same multidimensional optimization and advanced functionality as the company’s flagship CDM-625 Advanced Satellite Modem. It supports VersaFEC® and Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) forward error correction, DoubleTalk® Carrier-in-Carrier® bandwidth compression and the IP Packet Processor with advanced QoS and compression. Additionally, the new CDM-625A takes spectral efficiency to the next level by offering more filter rolloffs, including 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 35%. The additional rolloffs will further reduce the required satellite bandwidth, thereby reducing operating expenses associated with satellite communications.

The CDM-625A provides extended 950 to 2250 MHz L-Band support for compatibility with upcoming High Throughput Satellites (HTS). It also features expansion slots enabling support for future growth, additional functionality and expandability. The CDM-625A is fully backwards compatible with the CDM-625. In addition, the CDM-625A supports the same 1:1 and 1:N redundancy switches as the CDM-625. This compatibility enables the new modem to be seamlessly integrated into existing CDM-625-based networks.

“This new satellite modem will enable tighter carrier spacing so more traffic can be packed into a transponder,” commented Daniel Enns, Senior Vice President Marketing & Business Development for Comtech EF Data. “New and existing customers alike will relish the high-performance and future-proof nature of the CDM-625A Advanced Satellite Modem.”

Comtech EF Data is now accepting orders for the new modem with deliveries starting next month. The CDM-625A will be on display in the Comtech stand #1.F80 at IBC 2013 in Amsterdam next week.
