Fujitsu Modular Data Center Wins Special Judges' Prize at the Green IT Awards 2013

FJTSF, FJTSY

Tokyo, Sept 18, 2013 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu today announced that together with Fuji Electric Co., Ltd. and Fujitsu Laboratories Limited it has received a Green IT Award from Japan's Green IT Promotion Council and the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association (JEITA). Fujitsu was awarded a Special Judges' Prize in the category of "Energy Savings of IT" for its green IT-based container datacenter, Fujitsu Datacenter Product Modular Data Center, which leverages natural energy sources.

About the Green IT Awards

The Green IT Awards were established to honor the development and application of IT equipment, services and solutions that reduce energy consumption, with the aim of increasing the prevalence of eco-friendly green IT and bringing about a society that values environmental preservation while achieving economic growth.

Reason for the Award

The Modular Data Center is a containerized datacenter with a wide range of applications, such as rapidly bringing cloud services online, coping with spikes in demand for ICT resources, or building recovery sites or backup sites as a way of maintaining business continuity.

Since the product does not draw outside air directly into the container, it is unaffected by dust or corrosive gases and can therefore be placed anywhere. In addition, the datacenter's air conditioning equipment features excellent cooling efficiency and incorporates low-power system control technology, thereby enabling high-density, high-efficiency server operations. As a result, it consumes 40% less power than conventional datacenters hosted in buildings. The award was granted in recognition of this outstanding energy performance.
