Release of Third Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability Report Documents Progress and Performance Across the Company's Entire Value Chain

SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 19, 2013) - Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR), the industry leader in network innovation, today published its third Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability Report, highlighting its advancements in powering a new and sustainable network. The report details the Company's developments and progress for fiscal years 2011 and 2012 in key areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, supply chain responsibility, sustainable best practices, employee development and community engagement and philanthropy.

Report Highlights:

Operational Excellence

  • Reducing Emissions - Juniper Networks set and met targets to reduce its carbon footprint by five percent per employee in 2011 and 10 percent per square foot in 2012. The company continues to report its emissions via CDP.

  • New LEED Certified Headquarters - Juniper's new headquarter buildings in Sunnyvale, Calif. are LEED certified and designed, constructed and operated to meet Juniper's actual resource needs. The campus features a -300 kW photovoltaic system, a 1 MW fuel cell and a 97 kW solar water installation. Building A received Gold certification, while Building B was awarded Platinum status, the U.S. Green Building Council's greenest level.

  • Improving Efficiencies in Labs - Juniper implemented new air side economizers, replaced chillers with more efficient units, reduced the cooling load through process changes, virtualized servers and upgraded HVAC units to improve overall data center airflow, representing a savings of 7,824,947 kWh.

Product Sustainability

  • Ongoing R&D Commitment - During its fiscal years 2011 and 2012, Juniper Networks invested 23 and 25 percent, respectively, of its annual net revenue in research and development -- more than any of its industry peers -- to continue the advancement of the performance, capabilities and efficiencies of the new network.

  • Leading in Energy Efficiency - Juniper is working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy on a voluntary Energy Star program for Large Network Equipment as a means of driving the development of more energy efficient networking products and ensuring customers understand the energy implications of their networks solutions.

  • Continuing to Simplify the Network - The Company launched the Juniper Networks® QFX3000-M QFabric™ System, which occupies up to 63 percent less space, uses up to 74 percent fewer cables and consumes up to 57 percent less power than competitive solutions, to mid-sized data centers.

  • Redefining the Network Core - Juniper Networks launched the PTX5000 Packet Transport Router, which features world-record energy efficiency of 1.5W per Gigabit of throughput, and the PTX3000 Packet Transport Router, the industry's first and only Converged Supercore™ for service providers, which is just 10.6 inches deep and can be installed in virtually any space and energy-constrained environment.

Supply Chain

  • Understanding the Opportunities within Our Supply Chain - To help Juniper create a deeper understanding of the supplier landscape, the Company surveyed the suppliers that represent the top 80 percent of direct spend on their commitment, initiatives and performance in a wide scope of sustainability topics, including carbon emissions, labor policies, environmental, health, safety and security, adherence to the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition Code of Conduct, Juniper's Supplier Code of Conduct and conflict minerals.

People and Communities

  • Working to End Modern Day Slavery - In 2012, Juniper Networks reaffirmed its support of Not For Sale, a non-profit organization striving to end modern day slavery. Juniper provided funding to support Not For Sale projects and infrastructure that provide deployable and innovate solutions to address data collection and connectivity issues in the field. The Company also supports Not For Sale's social enterprises through sales of REBBL Tea and HOME soup in its offices.
