BAE Systems continues to demonstrate its threat
management leadership through the successful completion of its
Common Infrared Countermeasure (CIRCM) systems Preliminary Design Review
(PDR). With the conclusion of the PDR — a key step in the development of
the next-generation solution — to date, BAE Systems has now met or
exceeded every technology development milestone put forth by the U.S.
Army.

“The maturity of our CIRCM system extends far beyond what would
typically be expected at a Preliminary Design Review,” said Bill Staib,
director of Threat Management Solutions at BAE Systems. “With more than
14,000 hours of test data on production representative hardware, this
milestone feels a lot more like a Critical Design Review than a PDR.”
CIRCM is BAE Systems’ next-generation integrated aircraft survivability
and protection solution, designed to protect the U.S. Army and Navy
helicopter fleets from existing and evolving infrared-guided threats.
Since BAE Systems was awarded a contract to compete in the CIRCM
technology demonstration phase in 2012, the company has met or surpassed
every program milestone including the early delivery of initial units
and successful contractor-led testing. The configuration provided at the
PDR is the same configuration that the U.S. Army will test later this
year, which is a further testament to the systems’ effective development.
BAE Systems tests and evaluates its CIRCM systems in its Worrell/Weeks
Aircrew Protection Center. This unique $20 million state-of-the-art
facility enables rigorous analysis and integration of aircraft
survivability equipment in an operationally representative environment.
The CIRCM systems leverage the expertise of BAE Systems’ talented team
and the company’s rich heritage, which includes more than 40 years of
threat management experience and the fielding of more than 15,000
infrared and electronic countermeasures systems worldwide.
