Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (NYSE:MMC), a global professional
services firm offering advice and solutions in risk, strategy, and human
capital, announced its commitment to hire 500 US veterans over the next
three years. Its Veterans Talent Initiative will focus on recruiting US
veterans and providing them with resources to help build successful
civilian careers.
On Veteran's Day, Marsh & McLennan Companies' General Counsel Peter Beshar, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer Nicole Gardner, and Dan Baulig of Marsh, who heads up the Firm's Veterans Colleague Resource Group, announced the Company's Veterans Talent Initiative, alongside representatives of John Jay's Veterans Corporate Roundtable and other veteran-friendly companies, at the NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square. “We are honored to support the men and women who have served our country
with valor and distinction, and in doing so, broaden our efforts to
bring together the best talent to deliver high-impact solutions to our
clients,” said Dan Glaser, president and CEO, Marsh & McLennan
Companies. “Veterans represent a diverse population with outstanding
leadership, project management, and communications skills, making them a
tremendous asset for our Company.”
Mr. Glaser has asked Julio A. Portalatin, president and CEO of Mercer,
and Peter Beshar, EVP and general counsel of Marsh & McLennan Companies,
to serve as Executive Sponsors of this initiative. Chief Diversity &
Inclusion Officer Nicole Gardner will lead the Company’s veterans
project team.
The Firm will be aided in these efforts by its global, enterprise-wide
Veterans Colleague Resource Group, whose mission is to support veterans
through hiring and mentoring, and to help them apply their unique
skills, experience, and knowledge to the Company’s work.
Marsh & McLennan Companies also revealed plans to better accommodate the
Company’s military families and active-duty reservists. These changes
include allowing colleagues who perform annual short-term reserve duty
to keep their military pay in full, in addition to their normal pay from
the Company, and providing paid time off to colleagues for certain
military-related leaves.
In addition to the launch of the Veterans Talent Initiative, the firm is
expanding its relationships with organizations focused on the
development of veterans in local communities, providing various forms of
support, including expertise and classroom space, to Four Block, John
Jay College, and the US Army War College. Marsh & McLennan Companies is
a member of the 100,000 Jobs Mission, a coalition of companies which has
pledged to hire veterans, share best practices, and leverage its
networks to identify talented veterans.
