T.TD

CHERRY HILL, N.J., Nov. 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- TD Bank, America's Most Convenient Bank®, has announced the Bank's 100th and 101st retail store LEED certifications. The two newly certified stores, located at 1709 Third Avenue in New York City and 2063 Ralph Avenue in Brooklyn have received LEED Gold certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and evaluates buildings for their overall environmental performance in six areas, which include sustainable property location, water use, energy efficiency, materials and resource use, indoor environmental quality, and overall innovation and design.

"We are excited to reach this milestone in TD Bank's green building efforts," says Jackie Henke, Innovation and Transformation Director, TD Bank. "By incorporating sustainable features, state of the art technology and renewable energy sources, we're able to design high performance stores that allow us to stay true to our commitment to be as "Green as our Logo."

Energy Saving Features Include:

  • Constructed with recycled and regionally manufactured materials
  • Natural daylight to reduce electricity costs for lighting and create a pleasant atmosphere for Customers and Employees
  • Automatic light sensors turn light off when there is enough daylight and reduce energy consumption
  • Recycling program will collect paper, glass, metal, plastic, cardboard, and fluorescent lamps

Achieving LEED certification is dependent on every aspect of a facility's planning, building and structural components. TD Bank's newly certified stores reduce environmental impact to the building site through a comprehensive site selection process and were both built on a previously developed site near other community facilities to help reduce urban sprawl. Additionally, both stores feature an interactive Kid Zone screen within the Penny Arcade coin counting machine where children can learn about the different sustainable features of the store.

TD Bank is committed to building smarter, greener stores. The Bank's green stores and offices strive to have superior indoor air quality, plenty of natural light, and limit the harmful effects of chemicals and toxic materials. In fact, all TD Bank offices and stores built today use 30 percent less energy than the bank's earlier facilities. Additionally, some TD stores generate their own renewable electricity with solar panels using the Bank's innovative solar drive-thru canopy.

In 2010, TD Bank instated a carbon neutrality commitment making it the largest North American bank to announce that it was carbon neutral. TD Bank's carbon neutrality program has three components: reduce energy use throughout the Bank's operations, green the Bank's energy supply and develop innovative carbon offset with commercial and social partners. TD Bank has actively working to reduce their carbon footprint by 1 metric ton per employee by 2015.
