Colonial Life reveals holiday wish lists for benefits

UNM

Employers want to save money on benefits costs; employees want help understanding their benefits

What tops the benefits wish lists of America’s employers and workers this holiday season?

Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company checked with Santa to find out what employers and employees want to find under the workplace benefits tree. Here’s the list of gifts they would most like to receive:

What employers want most from the benefits plans they provide

  • Ways to save money. With the cost of providing benefits to workers continuing to rise, employers are looking for all means possible to trim their costs.
  • Help understanding the Affordable Care Act. Employers are finding it difficult to keep up with changes in the new health care legislation and how it will impact their business — and their bottom line.
  • Greater participation in the company’s wellness program. When more workers participate in employer-sponsored wellness programs and improve their health, employers save on health care costs.

What employees want most from their benefits plans

  • Help understanding their benefits. Employers aren’t the only ones confused by the Affordable Care Act and how it affects their employee benefits. Forty-seven percent of workers say they are not very knowledgeable or not at all knowledgeable about the impact the Affordable Care Act will have on them.1
  • Benefits that meet their individual needs. Employees have different needs for benefits based on their marital status, income, age, lifestyle and family situation. Having a choice of affordable benefits allows workers to choose the coverage that best meets their needs.
  • Financial security for their families. Thirty-six percent of American workers say they always or usually live paycheck to paycheck.2 Employees need benefits that protect them from financial disaster.

“No one needs to max out a credit card or fight holiday traffic to make these wishes come true,” says Steve Bygott, assistant vice president of core market services for Colonial Life. “Employers can get the benefits solutions they need to save money and improve communication at no cost by partnering with the right voluntary benefits provider,” he says. “At the same time, employees can get the help they need to better understand and personalize their benefits packages.”
