120 New Cell Sites Reinforce 4G LTE Network in Florida

Rural Areas, Travel “Links” Targeted Across State

Verizon Wireless, which operates the nation’s largest 4G LTE wireless network, activated 120 new 4G LTE cell sites in Florida during October and November to reinforce the company’s most advanced wireless technology for customers across the state. The company has installed nearly 1,000 new 4G LTE sites so far in Florida during 2013.

With strong Verizon 4G LTE coverage already established in the state’s population centers, many of the newest sites targeted rural areas such as Marianna, Clewiston, Immokalee and Mulberry; and final “links” along major travel corridors. For example, the Verizon 4G LTE network is now continuous from Key West to Jacksonville along I-95, from Tampa to Daytona Beach on I-4, and from Naples to Lake City on I-75.

Most major markets were reinforced as well in November and December. In the Orlando area, more than 30 new LTE sites were installed during the past 60 days alone.

Verizon launched 4G LTE technology in Florida in December 2010.

“Our teams continue to quickly build 4G LTE sites and enhance service in markets big and small,” said Frank Wise, network executive director for the Verizon Wireless Florida region. “Customers everywhere want LTE technology, and we’re working hard to keep far ahead of demand and to make competitors continue to play catch-up.”

High-speed 4G LTE enhances customer experiences in making voice calls, sending e-mails, text and picture messages, connecting to the internet and accessing tens of thousands of applications, games, video, music and many other features from their phone, tablet or other device.

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5-12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2-5 Mbps on the uplink.

Large investment to enhance network technology and reliability in Florida is an ongoing focus for Verizon Wireless. Since the company formed in 2000, more than $2 billion has been invested to build and enhance Verizon Wireless network coverage and services for customers across the state.
