Tortoise Capital Advisors, adviser for seven closed-end funds, today
announced that Rand Berney will join its closed-end fund board of
directors on Jan. 1, 2014.
Rand Berney will join independent board members Conrad Ciccotello,
Charles Heath and John Graham as well as board members H. Kevin Birzer,
chairman of Tortoise’s closed-end funds and senior managing director of
Tortoise, and Terry Matlack, chief executive officer of Tortoise’s
closed-end funds and managing director of Tortoise.
“Rand brings a tremendous amount of Fortune 500 energy industry,
corporate and financial experience to the board,” stated Kevin
Birzer. “This unique perspective will provide our stockholders with a
complementary knowledge base and skill set in directing the funds. We
are delighted to have him join the board.” Mr. Berney held several
leadership positions during his 35-year career in energy, serving 20
years in corporate officer positions with ConocoPhillips, one of the
world’s largest energy companies. During his tenure, he also was deeply
involved with its corporate board, including during the merger of Conoco
Inc. and Phillips Petroleum Co. in 2002. His experience at
ConocoPhillips included serving as senior vice president of corporate
shared services, vice president and controller, and general auditor. He
currently is an executive in residence and professor at Kansas State
University's College
of Business Administration.
Mr. Berney earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Oklahoma
State University and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Kansas
State University. He is a member of the Oklahoma Society of CPAs, the
Financial Executive Institute, American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants, the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Institute of
Management Accountants.
