Science® (OTCQB: LSCG) recently announced that Fred Maxik of Lighting
Science, an LED lighting technology and innovation company, was
honored by the American Friends of Phelophepa Train. Nicknamed “The
Train of Hope,” the trains operate using the rail infrastructure in
South Africa to deliver basic health care to primarily under-served
rural areas. The Patrons, Archbishop Desmond and Leah Tutu, and the
Board of The Phelophepa Train presented Maxik with the honor at this
year’s Benefit Gala held in New York City.
This year, the organization carefully selected the 2013 recipients of

their commitments to empower the poorest communities in Africa and
around the world. Maxik, CTO of Lighting Science, was selected for his
philanthrophy and innovation contributions that have furthered
Phelophepa’s work. In the past, he was also recognized by the White
House as a national “Champion of Change” for his work harnessing
renewable energy to empower communities in the US and Africa.
Other 2013 honorees included are Global Entrepreneur Christophe
Charlier, renowned dermatologist David Anthony Colbert MD, influential
business leader Tony Elumelu, and Golden Globe and BAFTA nominated
actress Sienna Miller.
