Horsehead Corporation Achieves ISO 14001 Certification

Horsehead Holding Corp. (Nasdaq: ZINC) announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Horsehead Corporation (“Horsehead”), a leading U.S. producer of specialty zinc and zinc-based products and a leading recycler of electric arc furnace (“EAF”) dust, has achieved ISO 14001 certification at each of its four EAF dust recycling facilities. Having earned ISO 14001 certification for its Environmental Management System at its Rockwood, TN facility, Horsehead has completed a multi-year effort to become certified across its EAF dust recycling operations. In addition to Rockwood, Horsehead is ISO 14001 certified at its Palmerton, PA (2011), Chicago, IL (2012), and Barnwell, SC (2012) facilities.

Based in Pittsburgh, PA, Horsehead employs over 300 people at its four recycling facilities and is the largest recycler of zinc-bearing waste in North America.

In conjunction with the certification, Jim Hensler, President & CEO of Horsehead said “we are very proud of our ISO certification and we will continue to empower our employees to strive for improvement and innovation in our environmental services and performance.” Hensler added “we are pleased with our achievement, as it sets us among a handful of environmental services companies worldwide to be ISO 14001 certified. This highlights our overall commitment to the environment.”

INMETCO and Zochem, other wholly-owned subsidiaries of Horsehead Holding Corp., were previously certified to ISO 14001.
