Russells Point, Ohio, Residents, Visitors To Experience 4G LTE With Verizon Wireless Expansion

VZ, VOD

RUSSELLS POINT, Ohio, Dec. 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

WHO: Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's largest 4G LTE network and largest, most reliable 3G network

WHAT: Verizon Wireless recently enhanced its 3G and 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) wireless voice and data service in Russells Point, Ohio, adding capacity in expectation of the area's busy summer months. 4G LTE empowers Verizon Wireless customers with compatible devices to surf the Web, post status updates and photos, and download files wirelessly at speeds up to 10 times faster than customers on 3G networks.

WHERE: Verizon Wireless debuted its 4G LTE network in the Northwest Ohio area, including Toledo, in July 2011. Recently, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network was further updated in the town of Russells Point and Orchard Island, with enhanced coverage to the town of Lakeview, including the south side of Indian Lake.

BACKGROUND:  "Our community is unique, in that the population of the Indian Lake Region nearly doubles on any given weekend between Memorial Day and Labor Day, nearly triples on those holidays and nearly quadruples during the Independence Day holiday," said Russells Point Mayor Robin Reames. "Our police, fire and emergency medical services that serve the Indian Lake region rely on Verizon Wireless for their communications. These two factors have created a need for a tower to be placed in our area."

"The community is very grateful to Sgt. Ryan Furlong, communications officer of the Logan County Sheriff's Department and Chief Joe Freyhof, Russells Point chief of police for their efforts in bringing this need to the attention of Verizon Wireless and to Verizon Wireless for recognizing our needs and acting swiftly in addressing them," Reames said. "The installation and operation of this tower is an essential tool for our safety services to complete their mission to 'Protect and Serve' both our permanent and seasonal residents. The Village of Russells Point is proud to announce that the temporary Verizon Wireless tower, located at the rear of the Municipal Building is in now in full operation."

Verizon Wireless has the nation's largest 4G LTE network and largest, most reliable 3G network. Launched in December 2010, our 4G LTE network is available in more than 500 markets to 97 percent of the population and covers more than 303 million people in the U.S., including those in areas served by our LTE in Rural America partners. Our 4G LTE covers more than 99 percent of the company's 3G network footprint.

"4G LTE is changing the way customers interact with the world via next generation apps, devices and solutions," said Mark Frazier, president–Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless. "By investing in wireless broadband, we're investing in local communities and economies where our customers live, work and play."

The growth of the 4G LTE network has fostered development of new and innovative solutions as diverse as LTE-connected cars and remote medical diagnostic options. One solution recently brought to market is the Verizon 4G LTE Router, which can support wired and Wi-Fi-enabled devices simultaneously, allowing users to take it on vacation or business travel to stay connected.

The company also offers a full line of 'smart accessories' across the categories of health and fitness, lifestyle and toys that leverage its leading portfolio of mobile devices and networks. For a full list of smart accessories please visit: www.verizonwireless.com/smartaccessories.
