Harmonyx Lab Earns Accreditation from the College of American Pathologists

BIOGY

Harmonyx Diagnostics, an automated genetic testing laboratory, today announced that it has earned accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) after a recent inspection and site visit performed by the organization’s inspectors. The CAP is a leading organization of board-certified pathologists that serves patients, pathologists and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine worldwide. With this accreditation, Harmonyx and its holding company, TransnetYX Inc., are now part of an exclusive group of laboratories worldwide that have met the CAP’s high standards.

“This accreditation is a direct reflection of our staff’s diligent efforts to maintain the highest level of management oversight in our lab,” said Bob Bean, President of Harmonyx and Transnetyx. “We’ve worked extremely hard to streamline our processing systems to address our customers’ growing testing needs and I couldn’t be more pleased to receive this endorsement from the College of American Pathologists.”

The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is based on rigorous standards that are translated into detailed and focused checklist requirements. The checklists, which provide a quality practice blueprint for laboratories to follow, are used by the inspection teams as a guide to assess the overall management and operation of the laboratory. Because of its comprehensive nature, the CAP accreditation can help achieve a consistently high level of service throughout an institution or healthcare system.

In late 2009, Transnetyx launched Harmonyx to address the high growth segment of human testing for specific pharmacogenomic applications. The company reconfigured its laboratory processes and operations for human testing applications certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Certificate of Compliance (COC) from the Centers of Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Harmonyx’s automated system runs a progression of diagnostic tests to help ensure a doctor’s prescription is safe and effective, and the patient receives the appropriate dosage and medication based on his or her unique genetic make-up.
