Marcus Theatres Launches Indie Focus

MCS

Marcus Theatres® , a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE:MCS), announced today that on Friday, January 17 it will launch Indie Focus, a new initiative to offer audiences the opportunity to watch the best art and independent films. This unique content, presented at 11 Marcus Theatres locations in six states, will appeal to a discerning audience interested in experiencing cutting-edge entertainment in auditoriums using the finest digital projection and sound technology.

An Indie Focus movie might be a first run film from a major director or a debut outing from a novice auteur, but they share common characteristics that appeal to a discriminating moviegoing audience. Indie Focus films tend to reflect the individual artistic vision of the filmaker and focus on character development. Indie directors are often more likely to innovate or take risks because they are not trying to appeal to a mass audience.

“Marcus Theatres is commited to championing movies of all kinds and offering great entertainment to all of our different audiences,” said Rolando B. Rodriguez, Marcus Theatres president and CEO. “Our guests will appreciate being able to enjoy these films in the comfort of our state-of-the-art auditoriums.”

Each week participating theatres will run a new Indie Focus film for a full slate of shows, including evenings and matinees. Regular theatre pricing will apply, including special pricing, such as $5 Tuesdays.

Indie Focus is not the first Marcus Theatres’ program geared toward serving alternative audiences. In September, Marcus Theatres launched its successful Theatre Entertainment Network, an initiative to offer audiences a wide variety of alternative entertainment options including concerts, opera, comedy performances and classic movies on the big screen.

Indie Focus will launch at the following participating theatres on January 17 with HER, writer/director/producer Spike Jonze’s award-winning love story for the modern age.
