Saving or paying for college just became easier for 10 lucky people
across the country who each won $10,000 from Upromise by Sallie Mae in
its second annual “Make the Pledge, Keep the Promise” $100,000 giveaway.
Steve Williams of Sanford, Fla., pledged to save for his two-year-old’s
college education and won $10,000. Another winner, Rodolfo Sosa, Jr. of
Golden, Colo., will use his money to transfer to a larger college, where
he can pursue his passions for renewable resources and business. Pamela
Smith of Kinnelon, N.J., will use her $10,000 when her two high
school-aged daughters go to college. Colleen Eggert of Plano, Texas, a
career changer who recently graduated from college, will use her money
to give back through her special needs daycare business.
“Thousands of people took the pledge to save for college and inspired us
by sharing their dreams and their commitment to fulfill them,” said Erin
Condon, vice president, Sallie Mae. “Whether college is on the horizon
or you’re still paying for your own education, Upromise by Sallie Mae
can help make college a reality. We’re thrilled to empower Steve,
Pamela, Rudolfo, Brennan and six additional winners to make progress
towards their goals.”
Upromise by Sallie Mae is free to join and members have earned nearly
$800 million in cash back for college through everyday purchases, online
shopping, booking travel or dining out. Rewards can be invested in a 529
college savings plan, used to help pay down an eligible Sallie Mae
student loan, deposited into a Sallie Mae High Yield Savings Account or
requested by check.
