The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Awards Contract to Constellation for $2.1 Million Lincoln Tunnel Lighting Upgrade

EXC

Constellation today announced that it has been awarded a contract by The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for the installation of 2,300 energy efficient, light-emitting diode (LED) lights in the Lincoln Tunnel. Under the terms of the contract, the $2.1 million lighting upgrade is expected to provide more than $283,000 in energy savings annually to the Port Authority. The resulting energy savings will be used to fund the cost of the project, which is scheduled for completion in February of 2014.

In 2012, Constellation was selected by competitive request for proposal to provide $8.7 million in energy conservation measures for the Port Authority Bus Terminal and the Lincoln Tunnel. Together, the projects are anticipated to provide more than $1 million in energy savings annually over 15 years.

“Constellation is proud to support the Port Authority’s commitment to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility,” said Gary Fromer, senior vice president, energy management programs, for Constellation.

The 45-watt Lincoln Tunnel LED lights will consume roughly half the energy of the existing 70-watt high-pressure sodium and 100-watt metal halide fixtures and reduce electricity use by an estimated 1.2 million kilowatt-hours annually. Facilities Solution Group, located in Perth Amboy, N.J., installed the system. Green RG Management, based in North Arlington, N.J., provided the LED lighting fixtures. Green Econometrics, in Clifton, N.J., conducted the energy efficiency analysis of the project.

Bernie Erickson, Northeast regional manager for Facility Solutions Group stated, “FSG values our longstanding relationships with both Constellation and the Port Authority, and we were pleased to play a part in this exciting project.”

Al Heyer, founder and CEO for Green RG Management said, “We are delighted to work with Constellation and Facilities Solution Group to deliver a state-of-the-art solution to the Port Authority. Almost all of our products are assembled in North Arlington, N.J. This enables Green-RG to produce robust, uniquely feature rich products that include custom settings and controls specific to the Lincoln Tunnel’s project requirements.”

A NAESCO-accredited Energy Services Provider, Constellation and its fulfillment partners have assisted commercial customers and public agencies throughout the U.S. to implement energy efficiency programs.
