ATLANTA, Feb. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Internap Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ: INAP), a provider of high-performance Internet infrastructure services, today announced that digital music provider boinc has selected Internap's AgileCLOUD virtual and bare-metal servers, colocation, and hosting services to meet its full range of application and workload requirements, from digital music service management and delivery to disaster recovery. boinc is also using Internap's route-optimized Performance IP™ connectivity and Content Delivery Network (CDN) to ensure the seamless, high-quality delivery of digital music to users as it expands globally.
ABI Research estimates the market for streaming music will grow to $46 billion by 2018. boinc offers a new take on digital music by providing users unlimited, on-demand access to millions of songs without subscription fees, download charges or advertising. Instead, there is a one-time licensing fee – typically paid by the device manufacturer or service provider – giving users access to music on their Android and iOS smartphones, and soon tablets, whether they are online or offline. Originally launched in 2013 in Venezuela through a partnership with Movistar, a mobile operator and subsidiary of Telefonica, boinc has thousands of active users and plans to expand throughout Latin America and other international markets.
"Given our goal to reach five million users across multiple regions in the next year, it is imperative that the infrastructure for storing our music library and delivering it to mobile devices all over the world is agile, scalable and provides a flawless experience for our users," said Karl Zander, director of infrastructure at boinc. "After a competitive review of major cloud and hosting providers, we chose to consolidate our infrastructure with Internap to reap the benefits of one trusted provider that can deliver the full mix of services we require to support various applications and workloads, a global footprint and a 100% uptime service level guarantee."
Originally an Internap colocation customer, boinc quickly realized that the dynamic growth of digital music users and traffic meant that its small infrastructure team could be easily overwhelmed provisioning hardware to keep pace with demand. By consolidating its complete Internet infrastructure with Internap, boinc now has access to Internap's full range of hybrid services, from scale-out, highly-automated AgileCLOUD virtual and bare-metal servers to more customized environments like hosting and colocation – with the ability to monitor and manage these services through a single-pane-of-glass customer portal.
With Internap, boinc is able to match the specific requirements of its entire digital music service delivery process – from user authentication and license activation to music searches, playlists and other user data requests – with the best fit infrastructure to maximize performance and optimize costs. Internap's global Performance IP connectivity and CDN with patented route optimization will ensure reliable and seamless music downloads to users around the world.
"This deployment underscores the unique value Internap can bring to Internet, mobile and new media startups like boinc that often have limited internal teams, but are targeting large, high-growth markets with dynamic business requirements," said Steve Orchard, Internap's senior vice president and general manager, data center and network services. "Our hybrid infrastructure, global reach and high-performance networking combine to support a wide range of performance-sensitive applications, freeing up our customers to focus on what's truly important to them – elevating their business and ensuring end-user satisfaction."
