Lighting
Science, a leader in LED lighting technology, has received awards
for two of its recently introduced biological LED light bulbs. The MyNature
Grow and the Awake
& Alert bulbs were both recognized in the Retrofit Lamp Sources
category, in Architectural SSL magazine's fourth annual Product
Innovation Awards (PIA) competition.
"We are extremely pleased that our research and product development in
the emerging field of biological lighting has been recognized and
appreciated by the LED lighting community," said Sean Tegart, Vice
President of Lighting Science. "Lighting Science is committed to
innovating new products that are optimized for human and environmental
health, and this distinction is a both a credit to our team’s efforts
and an encouragement to continue pursuing a better lighting standard."
The MyNature Grow broad spectrum LED lamp is a spectrally optimized
retrofit solution for bio-agricultural applications in the home. The
lamp is optimized to deliver the photosynthetically-active radiation
(PAR) necessary to maximize a plant’s growth while providing a crisp
white working light. The lamps can be effectively utilized to grow,
flower or fruit any plant.
The Awake & Alert LED is designed to benefit the occupants of indoor
environments by promoting alertness in a standard BR30 form factor.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), people in the
United States spend an average of 90% of their time indoors under
artificial light, which lacks those wavelengths of light needed for
ideal human function, including the production of natural hormones.
Using the Awake & Alert light at the appropriate times can supplement
exposure to the blue light spectrum, strengthening the body’s circadian
rhythm, and increasing alertness and performance.
The Architectural SSL Magazine Product Innovation Awards is now in its
fourth year. According to Jim Crockett Editor for Architectural
SSL Magazine, "I noticed a definitive maturation — even
specialization — of the products being submitted. Clearly, manufacturers
of light sources using solid state LED lighting are starting to get a
firm handle on what the market wants, and are producing products to meet
that demand; conversely, they’re also identifying niches where
SSL-powered light sources can fill a vacuum in the market.”
