Survey: 64% of Investors Feel They Are Far-Sighted When They Contribute to an RRSP

T.NA

MONTREAL, Feb. 24, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Sixty-four percent of Quebecers feel they are being far-sighted and thirty-three percent feel secure when they contribute to an RRSP. These are the findings of an omnibus survey of 1,000 Internet users conducted by the National Bank Research team from January 7 to 9, 2014.

Respondents were asked to complete the sentence, "When making an RRSP contribution, we feel…," by choosing as many words as they wanted from a list provided.

"Paying yourself first is being far-sighted. It's also an excellent way to offer yourself peace of mind. You spare yourself financial worries and secure your future one contribution at a time," said Sophie Ducharme, Vice-President - Trust and Advisory Services at National Bank Private Wealth 1859.

"Only 6% and 3% of respondents chose "happy" and "well-rounded" respectively, which is not surprising. Most people would rather buy a tablet than make an RRSP contribution," continued Ms. Ducharme.

"However, I hope that's not the reason why 53% of respondents said they did not intend making an RRSP contribution in the next three years. RRSP contributions are not very glamorous, but there are major downsides to not making any. Although the future may seem far down the road, it is often just around the corner," she added.
