New Cypress TrueTouch Gen4X Touchscreen Controller Expands Line to Address Larger Screen Sizes for Emerging Markets

Device Brings Best-in-Class Gloved-Finger Tracking and Noise Immunity Capabilities to Lower Cost Superphones, Smartphones, Tablets, and E-Readers

BARCELONA, SPAIN--(Marketwired - Feb 26, 2014) - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) introduced a new addition to the TrueTouch® Gen4X touchscreen controller family that supports advanced features and larger screen sizes today at Mobile World Congress. The new Gen4X TMA448 controller delivers the industry's best gloved-finger tracking along with leading noise immunity, enabling high-performance touchscreens for superphones, smartphones, tablets and e-readers in cost-sensitive markets such as China.

The TrueTouch Gen4X TMA448 controller delivers best-in-class accuracy and linearity for gloves of different materials and thicknesses, including ski gloves, and it automatically switches between glove and finger tracking without any host-processor intervention. Competing solutions that need host-processor intervention complicate the user experience by requiring users to manually configure touch input settings.

With up to 58 sensing I/Os, TMA448 supports screens up to 8.3 inches, allowing customers to meet the system-level price points needed to drive high volumes for superphones and tablets in emerging markets. TMA448 and the TrueTouch Gen4X family outperform any competing solutions with robust immunity to electronic noise from aftermarket chargers and displays. Cypress is highlighting the new controllers at Mobile World Congress in Hall 2, 2E30MR at Fira Gran Via from February 24-27, 2014.

"Our previous Gen4 offerings have gained popularity with industry leaders around the world due to leading performance in noisy and wet environments," said John Carey, Senior Director of TrueTouch Marketing for Cypress. "The TrueTouch Gen4x TMA448 controller adds superior gloved finger tracking and provides the ideal touchscreen solution for superphones and tablets targeting discriminating consumers who are seeking a rich touchscreen experience at cost-conscious price points."

Cypress's TrueTouch Gen4X family delivers immunity to charger noise of up to 35V peak-to-peak (Vpp) from 1 - 500 kHz, with a 0.5-mm cover lens and a 9-mm-wide finger. With Cypress's unique and patented DualSense™ technology to execute both self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance measurements in the same device, the family offers the industry's best water rejection and wet finger tracking for seamless performance in real-world conditions, including the presence of rain, condensation, or sweat. The family also enables slim form factors with support for both in-cell and on-cell touch-integrated displays by leveraging Cypress's Single-Layer Independent Multi-touch (SLIM®) sensor structures.

By combining a 32-bit ARM® Cortex™ M-Core processor that is known for high-efficiency MIPS/mW along with 21 parallel receive channels, the TMA448 controller boasts 120-Hz refresh rates, and averages low power consumption of 12 mW in active mode and 15 uW in deep-sleep mode.

Availability
Samples and production quantities of the new Gen4X controllers will be available to lead customers in the second quarter of 2014. The controller will be available in a 56-pin 6 mm x 6 mm QFN package and in a 70-ball 5.5 mm x 5.5 mm BGA package.
