WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - March 06, 2014) - JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ: JBLU) today announced details of its upcoming expansion at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) with new low-fare service to three destinations beginning June 19, 2014: Charleston, S.C.; Hartford, Conn.; and Nassau, Bahamas (subject to receipt of government operating authority).
JetBlue plans to offer twice-daily service to both Charleston and Hartford, as well as once-daily year-round service to Nassau. In addition to these three new destinations from Washington, JetBlue will boost its existing service to Tampa, Fla., with a second daily flight effective July 2, 2014.
Together, these six new daily departures represent half the new flights JetBlue has earned the right to operate by acquiring slots as a result of the recent American Airlines-US Airways divestiture proceedings. More details of JetBlue's DCA expansion, which will bring the airline's daily departure count to 30, will be announced later this year.
This summer JetBlue will offer customers 24 daily roundtrip flights from DCA to eight cities: Boston, Charleston, Hartford, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Nassau*, Orlando, and Tampa, as well as the only nonstop service to San Juan, Puerto Rico from Washington's popular downtown airport.
To celebrate its growth, JetBlue is offering introductory sale fares as low as $30 one-way, including taxes and fees, from DCA to Hartford; $44 one-way from DCA to Charleston; and US $99 one-way from DCA to Nassau (subject to receipt of government operating authority) (a). All other nonstop JetBlue destinations from DCA are also on sale. Fares are valid for mid-week summer travel between June 24 and July 30, 2014 and may be purchased today only, March 6, 2014.

"We are delighted to be expanding in our nation's capital, on our way to 30 departures per day at Reagan National, with intro fares as low as $30(a) one-way," said Robin Hayes, JetBlue's president. "Despite our relatively small presence at DCA, JetBlue has truly disrupted the market with fair fares and a better experience for travelers. We look forward to bringing the positive benefits of nonstop JetBlue service from Washington to Charleston, Hartford, and Nassau, with more new destinations to come later this year."
"We congratulate JetBlue on this expanded service," said Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority President and CEO Jack Potter. "We welcome additional options for the 42 million people who use Reagan National and Dulles International airports each year to reach 110 U.S. cities and more than 50 destinations around the world."
JetBlue has successfully carved out a niche among competitors by focusing on serving the customer who is under-served by other airlines and by delivering unparalleled value to travelers with its core product offerings. JetBlue has also been cited by an independent study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as the low-cost carrier that lowered fares the most when it began service in a new U.S. market in 2012. The JetBlue Effect, MIT says, lowered fares $32 one way on average (b).
JetBlue's three newest Reagan National destinations will be served with 100-seat EMBRAER 190 jets, featuring spacious two-by-two seating, the most legroom in coach (c), seatback entertainment including 36 channels of free DIRECTV® programming and more than 100 channels of free SiriusXM® satellite radio (d), unlimited free snacks and soft drinks, and JetBlue's acclaimed in-flight customer service. With JetBlue, customers can also enjoy a first checked bag free of charge (e).
