Back by Popular Demand: Amazon Studios Original Comedy Series Alpha House Will Return for a Second Season

AMZN

(NASDAQ: AMZN)—After generating more than 6,000 five-star reviews, customers’ beloved Senators-turned-roomies will once again be shaking hands, kissing babies and bunking up. Amazon Studios today announced that the critically-acclaimed and customer-favorite Garry Trudeau political series Alpha House will return for a second season. John Goodman, Mark Consuelos, Clark Johnson and Matt Malloy will reprise their roles as Republican Senators living under one roof in Washington, D.C. Since its launch, Alpha House has become the most popular TV season on Amazon Instant Video and has collected over 6,000 5-star reviews. Production on season two is scheduled to begin this summer.

“We are delighted that Alpha House is a winner among Prime members,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “More than 6,000 customers gave the show a perfect five-star rating and have posted glowing, witty and compelling reviews asking for a second season. We’re excited to begin production and keep the story about these senators alive.”

Written by Academy Award-nominee and Pulitzer Prize-winner Garry Trudeau and produced by Trudeau, Elliot Webb and Jonathan Alter, Alpha House is a comedy about four misfit senators who rent a house together in Washington, D.C. and deal with the outrageous—and sometimes all-too-real—foibles of Beltway life.

Alpha House is a joy to work on, and we’re thrilled that the show’s been renewed by Amazon,” said Garry Trudeau. “It’s fun to dance on the leading edge of streaming video, where audiences converge on server farms at all hours, besotted by John Goodman and free two-day shipping.”

Customers can binge watch season one of Alpha House now, exclusively on Prime Instant Video, using their Kindle Fire, iPad, iPhone, Roku, Xbox, PlayStation, Wii, and hundreds of other connected devices, or they can watch online at Amazon.com. For those who are not already Amazon Prime members, the first three episodes of Alpha House are available to all Amazon customers through Amazon Instant Video. Customers can sign up for a free trial of Amazon Prime at www.amazon.com/primevideos.

Thousands of customers have posted their reviews of Alpha House. Here’s what they’re saying:

  • “One of the funniest shows I’ve seen for awhile. Watched the first episode and I’m hooked for the duration. Sometimes ‘fiction’ takes on a reality of its own!”
  • “Awesome show! I hope this is a sign of things to come from Amazon. Very funny, great casting, and wonderful writing. Hope there is another season soon!”
  • “Love the juxtaposition of fiction with nonfiction, actors and mainstream newsmen. Looking forward to the next season coming out.”
  • “Watch it now. I personally cannot wait for season two. Great cast and darn good political comedy writing. See it.”
  • “A show that no one should miss. This is a wonderful show, especially for anyone who follows politics. The acting and actors are a joy to watch and the dialogue is snappy and very funny.”
  • “Love it. Can’t say enough about this series. Look forward to the next season. John Goodman is excellent and the writers are truly gifted. Casting is spot on!”
