KB Home (NYSE: KBH), one of the nation’s largest and most recognized
homebuilders, today released its seventh annual Sustainability Report,
available exclusively at www.kbhome.com/sustainability.
KB Home issued its inaugural report in 2008 and is among a group of
corporate leaders in sustainability that publishes a comprehensive
annual sustainability report.
The latest report covers KB Home’s sustainability initiatives and
activities throughout 2013 and includes a scorecard measuring progress
against its stated goals. Achievements during the reporting period
included lowering the average Home Energy Ratings System (HERS) Index
Score of its new homes for the sixth straight year, introducing the
Wiser® home management system that empowers homeowners to monitor and
control energy usage, and demonstrating the latest energy- and
water-saving technologies and smart systems in its state-of-the-art
ZeroHouse 2.0 model homes. It also provides a look forward at the goals
set for 2014 in the homebuilder’s five key areas of focus: Energy
Efficiency, Water Conservation, Healthy Home, Smart Systems, and Waste
Reduction.
“KB Home is proud to publish our seventh annual Sustainability Report.
For the third year in a row, we are releasing the report to celebrate
Earth Day,” said Jeffrey Mezger, president and chief executive officer
of KB Home. “We essentially view every day as Earth Day at KB Home as we
remain committed to designing our homes to be more efficient and to
consume fewer natural resources, in order to help both our planet and
our homebuyers. A new KB home today is 65% more energy efficient and
uses 30,000 less gallons of water annually compared to a typical resale
home without the energy- and water-efficient features that we offer as
standard. These efficiency advantages lower the total cost of
homeownership, providing money- and resource-saving benefits that our
homebuyers can enjoy for years to come.”
Details of KB Home’s sustainability goals, achievements and challenges
can be found in the 2013 KB Home Sustainability Report, which can now be
accessed on the company’s website at www.kbhome.com/sustainability.
In developing the report, KB Home once again followed the Global
Reporting Initiative Guidelines, which provide a widely recognized level
of accountability and transparency, and are considered by many
environmental experts to be the current international standard for
sustainability reporting.
