Fujitsu Enhances Functions of the FUJITSU Network BroadOne LS100 Series LTE Femtocell

FJTSF, FJTSY

Multi-mode support, automatically selects the most appropriate frequency depending on the situation

Tokyo, May 7, 2014 - (JCN Newswire) - Fujitsu today announced it has enhanced the functions of the FUJITSU Network BroadOne LS100 Series LTE Femtocell, a compact indoor base station with multi-mode support, the most appropriate of which can be automatically select. The product is globally available to mobile-communications carriers as of today.

The product reduces a mobile communications carrier's need to manage wireless frequency band settings in response to usage conditions, and can be used to set up a highly optimized network environment without having to pay special attention to the wireless environment.

Background

The installation of compact base stations is one way to keep pace with the explosive rise in communications traffic that mobile networks have experienced as smartphones and other devices have become commonplace. The low-power transmitters of these base stations enable increased mobile network communications capacity in homes, offices, and stores. Today, mobile carriers are using only one out of several wireless bands when they install these compact base stations, but in the future, multiple bands will be available, and wireless bands will need to be expanded in order to increase network speeds.

Issues

Typically, the process of installing a compact base station begins with assessing the volume of traffic around the user and variations in signal strength, and setting the base station up appropriately, including selecting the wireless band to use, changing the signal strength, and checking conditions. It can be a laborious process that imposes a considerable burden on the mobile carrier. If the mobile carrier obtains a new frequency band, the compact base stations that have already been installed will not be able to support it, necessitating their replacement.

Product Features

The product is equipped with support for multiple wireless bands, and will automatically select the ideal wireless band without requiring the installer have any special knowledge of the wireless environment. This obviates the need to set up the compact base station separately for each wireless band, reducing the administrative burden on mobile carriers.

This new product will not only automatically select the optimal wireless frequency by itself, it can automatically select the most effective wireless frequency based on locational information obtained by a network device management system(1). In addition to this, it is also possible for mobile carrier business to manually set wireless frequencies themselves.

Even in cases where there is more than one band that could be used in a given area, or where bands differ from one area to the next, the product will always select the band that offers the best performance wherever it is located, greatly reducing the effort required of mobile carriers to set up femtocells, and improving the convenience and quality of experience for users.

Pricing

Available in quantities to mobile carriers. Pricing by quotation.

Sales Targets

One million units by the end of 2017.
