TORONTO, May 14, 2014 /CNW/ - IAMGOLD Corporation ("the Company") deeply regrets to report the death of an employee late yesterday at the
Company's Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (Rosebel) in Suriname.
The accident occurred in an area at the north end of the Rosebel
property that was being prepared for active mining later this year. No
one else was injured during the accident.
The immediate thoughts of management are with the family, friends and
co-workers of our colleague. The Company has notified the individual's
family. Rosebel is offering assistance and support to the individual's
family and colleagues and the entire Rosebel workforce.
The Rosebel emergency response team was immediately activated and
provided emergency assistance. The police authorities have been
notified and they are leading the investigation to determine the cause
of the accident. Rosebel has also started its own investigation to
determine the root cause to prevent such accidents from happening
again. The relevant government authorities have been notified.
