SEATTLE, May 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Quest Integrity Group, a global leader in the development and delivery of advanced inspection and engineering assessment services and software products, announces CorrectIR™, a new software solution that automates calculations to remove common errors from infrared (IR) thermometry tube temperature measurements.
IR thermometry has been used for 30 years to monitor tube metal temperatures in industrial furnaces and reformers, and it has proven to be an excellent diagnostic tool for detecting tube hot spots from internal fouling, catalyst failure and heat distribution non-uniformity. However, to gain IR thermometry's full benefits, a proven methodology is required to consistently enhance the accuracy of these IR temperature measurements.
CorrectIR utilizes a mathematical model directly tied to the actual furnace geometry resulting in corrected temperatures that are often materially more accurate than conventional IR measurements. The proven methodology is repeatable and can reduce dependency upon technician interpretation of the thermal images. Operators use the corrected temperatures to more reliably validate operation within integrity operating windows, manage tube reliability and assess failure risk.
"CorrectIR provides added value to the existing integrated solution set for fired heater and reformer tube integrity management from Quest Integrity. By automating calculations to remove common errors from IR temperature measurements, Reliability Managers can address asset integrity proactively, accurately assess tube remaining life, and most importantly, prevent catastrophic failures because of the increased confidence in their IR measurements," said Tim Hill, Principal Consultant – Advanced Engineering at Quest Integrity Group.
